Climate:

Bhutan has four seasons.

Southern Bhutan has a hot, humid sub-tropical climate with temperatures between 15-30°C year-round. The central region experiences cooler temperatures, temperate forests, warm summers, and cool, dry winters. The northern areas are cold in winter, with snow-covered mountain peaks and cool lower areas due to high altitude.

In Bhutan, spring is usually dry and starts in early March, lasting until May. It’s a time for flowers to bloom and birds to appear. The temperature is between 17–22°C. In lower areas like Punakha and Wangdiphodrang (1300 meters), the temperature is around 28–30°C.

Summer begins in mid-June with occasional rain and continues until late August. The rain is often heavy, especially in the southern parts of Bhutan. Temperatures range from 20–30°C, and it gets cooler in the evenings.

Autumn lasts from late September to November and brings sunny days with some early snowfall in higher areas. Temperatures are between 20–25°C, and the nights are cold.

Winter starts in late November and lasts until March. There is frost in many areas, and snowfall is common at elevations above 3000 meters. Eastern Bhutan is warmer than Western Bhutan. Winter is dry, with temperatures around 16°C in the valleys and clear blue skies. Nights can be very cold, sometimes below freezing.

Average Temperatures in Bhutan recorded from the valley floor (in Celsius).
