The East – West highway is Bhutan’s primary road. The road begins in Phuntsholing (south – west) of Bhutan, bordering the Indian state of West Bengal. And ends at Samdrup Jongkhar (south – east) of Bhutan, bordering Indian state of Assam passing through the central regions of Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangdiphodrang, Trongsa, Bumthang, Mongar and Tashigang. Driving on this highway will take you across bridges, over the high mountain passes crossing valleys, fields and small villages and alongside the high cliffs with stunning landscapes.
