Bhutan is year-round destination for visitors depending on the interest. There is always something happening in the country. With the Variety of climate at different altitudes, each season in Bhutan has its own beauty thought change in nature and blooming of diverse flora and fauna.
Spring months are from March – May: It is the best time to visit Bhutan for flower lovers, cultural, festival and trekkers. The weather is clear with blue skies. Up on the mountain top the snow starts to melt which gives way for the small flowers to bloom. On the drive way one can see rhododendron, orchid and cherry blossom.
Also, the popular Paro Tsechu (Religious festival) is held in the spring month. You will be able to witness grand events, where entire community comes together to celebrate the religious mask dance and to receive blessing and to socialize. Festivals like this is also time for Bhutanese to take break form work.
Summer months last from June – August: Going to Bhutan during summer means you can avoid the crowds and chilly weather. The weather is warm and there are rainfalls in these months. Summer if perfect season for wild mushroom collection in the damp forest. You can try and collect Chantelle, coral and the very expensive Matsutake mushroom which are found in some forest of Thimphu and Bumthang. We do celebrate mushroom festival in Thimphu and in Bumthang.
Autumn months are from September – November: For Festival, cultural and trekking this is the ideal time. The air is cooler with sunny and blue skies making it the perfect weather to visit Bhutan. You will have opportunities of taking lovely photos of the golden color farm fields and forests. There are also many local festivals which takes place in Bhumthang, Central Bhutan.
The winter months are from December – February: It is cold and we can expect to see snow in some higher mountains surrounding the valleys. However, the places of visit are more likely to stay warmer. The hotels are fitted with electric heater and some hotels have metal wood stoves to keep warm in the night. For ornithologist, you can see Black Necked Crane in Phobjikha valley. The cranes migrate from Tibet every winter. The valley is the winter paradise for the birds as their roosting place are well protected by the government.
Punakha and Trongsa annual festivals also takes place in winter as these two places are warmer compared to Paro, Thimphu and Bumthang.
Therefor one can also visit Bhutan in winter for an unforgettable holiday including Christmas and New Year.
I did not truly discover the beauty of my country until I explored its wonders as a tour guide with my guests. The more I travelled, the more I came to love the land that I call home. In my years of experience as a tour guide I have explored almost every corner of Bhutan. Through my interactions with the natives and the visitors, I have developed a deeper understanding of the needs of travellers who visit Bhutan.
My knowledge, experiences, skills and genuine interest in the field are my motivations to set up Bhutan Holiday Planner whose guiding principles are to provide our guests the authentic taste and experiences of Bhutan with its unique culture and breathtaking landscapes.
We look forward to knowing you and serving you with the best of services and experiences.
Best Wishes,
